Yugen collaborates with local illustrators to capture and visualize the Yugen essence. Their creations conceptualize how they interpret this Ancient Japanese concept. It's their personal homage to the beauty of the natural world and the limitless creativity of the mind to capture the subtle details of life.
Yugen asked me to create an illustration for one of their limited edition flavours, blood orange juniper. A perfect marriage of traditional gin herbs and fresh blood orange juice honors the deep rooted Flemish tradition of distilling jenever.
The scene shows a world where a woman embraces jellyfish Joe on the back of a whale that turns out to be a giant hand providing great canned drinks to the world. It’s an ode to nature. A cradle-to-cradle symbiosis between all living creatures in order to preserve our very existence. It’s a message of positivity, a message of ‘everything will be alright, Joe’.
